Police increase vigil along entry points to villages

Staff Reporter

THENI: Even as the Special Task Force intensified combing operations in Muruganmalai to nab the escaped Tamil extremists, the district administration and police have tightened vigil at the entry points in J.K. Colony and E. Pudhukottai near Muruganmalai in Periakulam taluk on Wednesday.

The Collector, Har Sahay Meena, and the Superintendent of Police, R. Sudhahar, interacted with the people living in these villages. They said that the people had helped the police in stopping the extremists from establishing their base near the villages. The women at E. Pudhukottai requested Mr. Sudhahar to provide them adequate protection from the extremists. The officer assured them protection and said they could contact him at any time for help. Mr. Meena promised that basic amenities such as drinking water, roads, streetlights, etc., would be provided to these villages in phased manner.
