ANANTAPUR: Thirteen passengers travelling in an unreserved coach of Bangalore-New Delhi Karnataka Express were taken ill after consuming eatables given by their co-passengers on Tuesday night. They were admitted to the Government Area Hospital at Guntakal by the Railway police in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to the railway police, about a dozen passengers, reportedly conversing in Hindi boarded the train at Bangalore station at 7.15 p.m. moments before it took off. After the train travelled for some distance they picked up conversation with the co passengers and offered some eatables to them. After sometime they fell asleep and some members of the Hindi speaking group alighted at Hindupur and some more got down at Penukonda. Police informed
Suspecting something fishy some co-passengers informed the matter to the railway police at Dharmavaram. They found 13 passengers unconscious. The railway police took some suspects into custody and the affected were admitted in the Government hospital in Guntakal. Two of the passengers gained consciousness in the morning and claimed themselves as Md. Iqbal of Anantapur and Iftiar of Lucknow. Both of them complained that cash and other valuables were stolen from their possession. The railway police picked up 10 suspects reportedly from Bihar and registered a case.
