HYDERABAD: A car rally will be flagged off on July 8 from Hyderabad to mark the 100 days countdown for the fourth Military World Games to be held here from October 14 to 21. The rally, which will cover the 10 adjoining districts of Hyderabad and essentially aimed at popularising and creating awareness about the Games, will be flagged off by the Union Defence Minister with Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who happens to be the chairman of the organising committee, also gracing the occasion. At a review meeting here on Wednesday, Dr. Reddy directed the concerned departments to be fully equipped to face any challenge in ensuring that the Games would be a big success. “We believe that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Tourism Departments should take appropriate steps to use the Games in showcasing the city,” he remarked. “With about 5,000 participants taking part in the Games from 100 countries, the prestige of the State is at stake. We should ensure that every participant leaves the City with happy memories after the Games,” Dr. Reddy said. The meeting was attended by S.N. Mohanty, principal secretary (Youth & Sports), Chitra Ramachandran, secretary (Tourism), D. Murali Mohan (SAAP VC & MD), Sabyasachi Ghosh, special officer for the Games, Prof. P. Chinnappa Reddy, technical advisor to Government (Sports).
