NEW LOOK: Svetlana Kuznetsova’s new hairdo has raised many eyebrows.
WIMBLEDON: Svetlana Kuznetsova thinks people are more interested in her hair than her tennis. The 22-year-old Russian reached the women’s quarterfinals on Tuesday and then said people keep asking her about the dreadlocks she has had put in her blonde hair. “How long did it take? I hear it more than my name,” she said. “I have to put a huge note on my front so everybody knows.” Kuznetsova, who beat Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-2, said she had been getting tips on her new hairstyle from Venus and Serena Williams. “They tell me what I have to do to take care of it,” Kuznetsova said. “They’re like, ‘Yeah, you got to keep it for longer.’” So how long did the dreads take to be put in? “Three-and-a-half-hours,” she laughed. Weather woes
Jelena Jankovic thinks she was upset by the bad weather as much as her opponent. The third-seeded Jankovic lost to No.18, Marion Bartoli of France, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, and said the four rain delays in the match dented her concentration so badly she was missing even routine shots. Not singing in the rain
There was no singing in the rain this time from Cliff Richard. The British singer, who entertained the crowd with an impromptu performance during a rain break in 1996, watched defending women’s champion, Amelie Mauresmo, lose her rain-affected fourth-round match to Nicole Vaidisova on Tuesday. The 66-year-old entertainer’s turquoise suit was the brightest thing in Centre Court’s Royal Box until the sun broke through, but there was no repeat of his sing-along of 11 years ago. — AP
