Women’s commission chief visits medical college hostel

Staff Reporter

Nesargi criticises police for not taking any action

College management says the girl was not assaulted

BANGALORE: Following a report in The Hindu on intruders in a women’s hostel assaulting a girl on July 2, State Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi visited the hostel of Rajarajeshwari Medical College on Tuesda y and inspected the premises.

Speaking to The Hindu on Wednesday, Ms. Nesargi said: “The management has been negligent with the women’s hostel having no compound and no security.” She questioned the police inaction on the issue. “Breaking in and entering a women’s hostel is a serious offence and the police have not even taken fingerprints or conducted enquiries,” Ms. Nesargi said.

She said a report would be prepared after further investigations.

Meanwhile, the college in a press statement denied the girl had been physically assaulted and said the intruders ran away as soon as she started screaming. While not stating anything about the lack of security in the hostel premises, the release said the student had chosen to give a written complaint with the medical director and not lodge a police complaint as she was busy preparing for an examination.
