Defence counsel taken to task in Katara case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A city court hearing the Nitish Katara murder case on Wednesday took the defence counsel to task asking why there was delay in recording testimonies of their witnesses. Additional Session Judge Ravinder Kaur told the defence counsel that when the witnesses were their own there could be no reason for delay. The court asked the defence to get the testimonies of their witnesses recorded by July 20.

Meanwhile, first defence witness Ashok Gandhi told the court that he could not bring the negatives of three photographs featuring prime accused Vikas Yadav and his cousin and co-accused Vishal Yadav.

They were apparently taken during the ring ceremony of his son which was held on the same night when Katara was killed on February 16, 2002.

Gandhi told the court that he could produce the negatives within three or four days.

The court then adjourned his deposition and asked the defence to be prepared with other witnesses on Thursday.

Meanwhile, on the request of the defence, the court allowed them to drop Amit Gandhi, son of Ashok Gandhi, from the list of defence witnesses.
