Merit scholarship for Prakasam master weaver

HYDERABAD: Kurupati Subba Rao, a master weaver of Epurupalem in Chirala Mandal of Prakasam District, has been selected for the National Merit Scholarship Certificate -2005 for excellent craftsmanship. It carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000 besides a citation..

According to the Andhra Pradesh Weavers’ Welfare Association, Rao had designed ‘Kuppadam’ type sari in 1998 which enabled thousands of weavers to earn their livelihood and resulted in pursuit of college education by their wards.

Padavala Lakshmana Swamy, general secretary, in a press release congratulated the master weaver for getting the honour.
