Evoking public interest

The West Bengal Opposition leader Mamata Banerjee’s scheduled visit to the city on Saturday has evoked considerable public interest. She is here to campaign against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on the Nandigram issue. Ms. Banerjee is reportedly visiting the State at the behest of the Communist Marxist Party (CMP) led by the former Minister M.V. Raghavan. Nearly 60 ‘dispossessed farmers’ from Nandigram are accompanying the leader. Some of them ar e reportedly relatives of persons who were killed in the police firing there.

Ms. Banerjee is scheduled to address a meeting at Palayam Martyr’s square on Saturday evening. She is also likely to interact with the media.
