KOCHI: The former judge of Supreme Court V.R. Krishna Iyer has invited the attention of Education Minister M.A. Baby into collection of capitation fee by private management schools. Letter to Baby
In a letter addressed to the Minister, he said that since capitation fee was illegal, different excuses, dubious and devious, are resorted to, ‘building fund’ being a popular one. “Leftist Government should not abet or tolerate this exploitation which has become common with many prestigious managements. More outrageous is the caste-creed based discrimination in the amount levied. It appears some concession is shown if the admission is to a higher class in the same school by a student of that school. A secret investigation will reveal the truth and the Education Department must take punitive action and launch prosecution criminally”. “I am told that this practice has been prevailing for a long time. State taciturnity is betrayal of responsibility if what I have stated is fact ,” he added.
