dated July 6, 1957 :Nehru on Soviet changes

Prime Minister Nehru has described the recent changes in the Soviet Union as “a move in a healthy direction.” He told a press conference in London on July 4 that the changes – the dismissal of four members of the Communist Party Presidium – probably indicated “a process which had been going on for some time past. We see in them, if I may say so, a progressive return of normality and that is a move in a healthy direction.” The Prime Minister said one could not expect a Foreign Minister to go about expressing opinions at press conferences regarding developments in other countries that would be embarrassing when they were so recent. “Every country which has gone through a major revolution gradually goes basic to what may be called normality. Revolution is not a normal thing but abnormal. The surprising thing about the Soviet Union is that it has taken a longer time to go back to relative normality. This may be due to it having been through two major wars, a civil war and all kinds of internal happenings that somewhat delayed the return to relative normality.”
