This Day That Age
The Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference in London has agreed unanimously that Malaya should become a full member of the Commonwealth partnership of nations, when she receives independence on August 31 this year. Like India and Pakistan, she will not owe allegiance to Queen Elizabeth, but will recognise her as the head of the Commonwealth. The Premiers, who took the decision on July 4, included Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Prime Minister of the new Commonwealth nation of Ghana, which received its independence only three months ago. Malaya will become the 10th full member of the Commonwealth.
