Letters to the Editor
Doctors are considered gods because they relieve the sufferings of the people and often bring them back from the jaws of death. But the arrest of several doctors in connection with the failed bombings in London and Glasgow — aimed at causing destruction to lives and property — has brought shame to the noble fraternity.
N. Radha Krishnan,
* * *
The U.K. has rightly decided to review recruitment procedures and expand background checks on skilled migrants. India should assure the U.K. that no stone will be left unturned to crack down on the suspects’ links here, if any. It should also give the assurance that primary screening will be done in India itself.
P.U. Krishnan,
* * * While the vast majority of Muslims are far removed from Osama bin Laden’s world view, the growth of an exclusivist and extremist mindset among some of them in Mumbai as much as in Melbourne cannot be wished away. It poses a clear danger.
A. Meghana,
* * * If the involvement of the Indian doctors in the attempted bombings is proved, it will deal a severe blow to the noble medical profession. It is obvious that academic education plays no role in building one’s character.
V. Vijayendra Rao,
* * * It is shocking to learn of the possible involvement of Indian doctors in the terror plots. These otherwise brilliant youngsters have besmirched the reputation of the medical profession besides spoiling the image of a religion. In the process they have also tarnished a country’s name. The arrests reinforce the fact that young minds can be easily brainwashed by terror groups.
N. Nagesh,
