Naveen’s spell goes in vain

HYDERABAD: A good spell by Naveen (six for 73) went in vain for P & T Colony as it suffered a 202-run defeat at the hands of VST in the A-division (two-day) league cricket championship here on Thursday.

The scores:

A-division (two-day) league:

CCOB 203 bt Visaka 45 and 117 (Mohibur Rehman five for 40).

VST 226 and 236 (Mohd. Asifuddin 87, N. Kaleemuddin 56, Mirza Maqbool Baig 41, Naveen six for 73) bt P & T Colony 151 and 109 (Mahesh 51, Md. Khaja Qutubuddin five for 40, Syed Naser Ali five for 29).

Gemini Friends 261 and 110 for nine (Ghanshyam Yadav four for 40, M.A. Raheem four for 55) drew with Ours 185 (Ghanshyam Yadav 44, Hariharan four for 50) and 54 for three.

Team Speed 155 (Saurabh Singh 57, A. Kaushik six for 48) and 123 for three drew with S.A. Sports (Amberpet) 218 (P.R. Mallikarjun four for 30).

Gujarati 213 (Abhishek Shah 43, Gutta Varun four for 59) and 124 for seven (Abdul Fareed 53, Md. Shareef five for 57) drew with R. Dayanand 143 (Abdul Fareed five for 31).

A-2 division (one-day) league:

Gouds XI 184 (Syed Babar 81, Hyder 43, Mahmood six for 47) bt Red Hills 124 (Mohammad Khalid five for 38, Mouzam Khan four for 13).

Districts league:

Adilabad 132 (Prashanth 55, Durga Prasad 46) lost to Mahaboobnagar 133 for four (Madhusudhan 54).

SBI enters final

State Bank of India entered the final of the Ghousuddin memorial basektball tournament, organised by CCOB, with a 68-65 win over City College Old Boys at City College.

CCOB led by eight points in the first quarter and increased it to 11 by the end of second quarter.

Subbaiah and Mohd. Rizwan put the bankmen back in the game with an excellent display and it was a phase which also saw the CCOB boys miss some easy scoring opportunities.

In the second session, international Harikrishna Prasad chipped in with crucial points with good support from Subbaiah.

Both of them scored of the drive-ins and rebounds consistently.

Though CCOB fought back well in the final quarter to reduce the lead considerably, they erred by committing fouls which saw the bankmen capitalise on the free throws to pick three crucial points in a row in the dying seconds to clinch the issue.

The scores:

SBI 68 (Subbaiah 20, Harikrishna Prasad 13, P.B. Srinath 11) bt CCOB 65 (Lokesh 16, Sandeep Yadav 10).

Table tennis tournament

St. Paul’s High School (Hyderguda) will organise the 21st St. Paul’s annual State open table tennis tournament from July 6 to 9 at its premises.

Competitions will be held for men, women, boys and girls in different age groups.
