CHENNAI: Indian players are leading in three of the four categories in the Asian under-16 and 18 chess championship being organised by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, according to information from the Indian chess federation. In the under-16 boys’ section B. Adhiban has a one point lead over his teammates P. Shyam Nikhil and R. Ashwath as also Darini Pouria of Iran with 5.5 points to his credit. S.P. Sethuraman and S. Nitin are in third spot with 4 points each. In the under-16 girls section, Pon. N. Krithika and Padmini Rout are in the second spot with 4.5 points each, just half a point behind Nakhbayeva Guliskhan (Kaz) and Esonboeva Gulruhsor (Uzb). Bhakthi Kulkarni is in third place with 4 points. With three more rounds to go, India has a chance of reaping a rich harvest of medals. In the under-18 girls’ section WIM Kiran Manisha Mohanthy joined Muminova Nafisa (Uzb), Hamrakulova Yulduz (Uzb), Rysbayeva Aigerim (Kaz) in the lead with 4 points each at the end of the sixth round . R. Preethi is in the second spot with 3.5 points and last year’s Asian under-16 champion P. Lakshmi Sahithi is in third place with 3 points to her credit.
