PUDUCHERRY: A one-hour telefilm on Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiar ‘Puducherryil Bharathi (Mahakaviyin Porkalam)’, which was released here recently by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, talks of his golden years in Puducherry. “Only those who read our history in books know about this Union Territory and the great men who have been here. For others such films would help teach history and also be a great source of inspiration,” Mr. Rangasamy said. The Minister for IT and Tourism, M.O.H.F. Shahjahan, said that he would take steps to air the film for school and college students. MLA Viswanathan, Assembly Speaker R. Radhakrishnan and Tourism Secretary A. Anbarasu were present. The film has been directed and scripted by Gunavathi Maindhan alias Ravi. “Information on his life, with details such as how he went to Kasi, his work in Swadesamitran as proofreader, and how he escaped to Puducherry, is given in the form of a commentary,” explains Gunavathi Maindhan, a former journalist. A book containing the script was released.
