Kakinada: The police foiled the attempt of the CPI workers to occupy Government land measuring eight acres in Kovvuru village of Kakinada rural mandal and disbursed demonstrators allegedly using force on Thursday. CPI State executive member K Subba Raju, district secretary Misala Satyanarayana, city secretary T. Madhu, AITUC district secretary Kirla Krishnarao and Mahila Samakhya district secretary Yadla Lakshmi who were in the forefront were arrested along with 55 other party workers and removed to Indrapalem police station. Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham district secretary Katta Satyanarayana, AIYF district secretary Bojja Sattibabu and other district leaders were also among the arrested. ‘Undemocratic’
The CPI workers tried to peg the red flags but the police ‘chased’ them. Speaking to newsmen K Subba Raju described the police action as undemocratic and unwarranted. He said the Government had issued pattas to landless poor two years ago for four acres of land but landlords occupied them and were cultivating them illegally.
