DU third cut-off list holds out little hope

Staff Reporter

Admissions to most courses have closed after second list

Popular courses are no longer available in most colleges

Third cut-off list consists various Science courses

NEW DELHI: The third cut-off list of percentages announced by Delhi University late on Wednesday night holds out little hope for many now with admissions to most Arts and Commerce courses in several institutions already closed after the second list.

Daulat Ram College, Gargi College, Janki Devi Memorial College, Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) and Miranda House have closed admissions to almost all courses being offered by them, barring one or two.

Popular courses like B.Com (Programme) and B.Com (Honours) are no longer available at a majority of colleges like Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Kalindi College, Lakshmi Bai College, Maitreyi College, Mata Sundri College, Motilal Nehru College, Shivaji College, Syama Prasad Mukherjee College and Sri Venkateswara College.

No seats for the same courses are available at evening colleges like Motilal Nehru College, P.G.D.A.V. College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Deshbandhu College and Zakir Husain College.

However, in Dyal Singh, Kirori Mal, P.G.D.A.V. (morning), Ramjas, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, S.G.G.S. College of Commerce, Shyam Lal – both morning and evening – and Zakir Husain College students can still apply for both B.Com (P) and B.Com (Hons).

A seat in B.Com (Hons) in top colleges like Hans Raj and Hindu is still possible with a high cut-off of 93.5-95.5 and 93.25-94.5 per cent respectively – falling marginally from the second cut-off list. Students can study the same course at Indraprastha College for Women for 90.25-93.25 per cent, 93-97 per cent at Kiroro Mal and at S.G.T.B. Khalsa for 91.5 per cent.

The cut-off percentage for B.Com (Hons) has remained high throughout in all the three cut-off lists, registering only a small decrease every time.

Admissions to popular course like B.A. Economics (Hons) have also been shut in colleges like Hans Raj, Kirori Mal, Lady Shri Ram, Miranda and Sri Venkateswara. Nevertheless, there are a few colleges that have come out with a third cut-off list for the same. The eligibility criteria for Hindu and Ramjas is 89.5-94.5 per cent and 87.5-93 per cent, respectively, while for S.G.G.S. College of Commerce it stands at a high 90.5 per cent.

In other Arts courses like Political Science (Hons), Sociology (Hons), Philosophy (Hons), Maths (Hons) and History (Hons), many colleges have closed admission.

Political Science (Hons) can be pursued at Hindu and Kirori Mal for 84.5-87.5 per cent and 79-82 per cent, respectively. At Ramjas, the same can be studied at 80-88 per cent.

Combination

Those keen on pursuing B.A. (Programme) could apply to Hans Raj and Kirori Mal where the requirement is 74-86 per cent and 81.25 per cent, respectively.

Most other colleges are not declaring a third cut-off list in this course. Few seats are available in B.A. (Programme) at Kamala Nehru College only with Philosophy combination.

Quite expectedly, colleges have come out with a third cut-off list in various Science courses with a dip of as much as five per cent in some programmes.
