Gulbarga: Farmers of Gulbarga district have been benefited by the Raitha Horata Samiti’s campaign to create awareness about crop insurance, samiti president and Janata Dal (Secular) leader Kedarlingaiah Hiremath has said. He told presspersons here on Thursday that the impact was the greatest in Jewargi taluk where the campaign was intense. The amount of compensation released to farmers in Jewargi was slightly over half the amount sanctioned in the whole State, he said. Compensation
The Government had sanctioned Rs. 152 crore for crop insurance compensation in the whole State this year. As much as Rs. 94 crore of this had been sanctioned for farmers in Gulbarga district. Of this amount, Jewargi farmers had got Rs. 73 crore, he said. Farmers in Aland taluk will get a compensation of Rs. 17 crore, Shahapur Rs. 3 crore, Surpur Rs. 65 lakh and those in Gulbarga taluk Rs. 50 lakh. No compensation has been sanctioned for farmers in Semdam, Chitapur, Chincholi and Afzalpur taluks. Farmers have been compensated for losses they had suffered during kharif and rabi seasons in 2006, he said.
