The new session to begin with counselling of eligible candidates today The All-India Council of Technical Education has approved of the college
NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday announced the opening of a new engineering college at Jaffarpur in South-West Delhi. The new session would begin with counselling of eligible candidates this Friday. Commitment
Ms. Dikshit said establishment of the Government Engineering College at Jaffarpur was a step towards fulfilling the commitment of her Government towards development of rural areas. The Chief Minister said a comparison of the sanctioned intake in degree-level courses of engineering in metropolitan cities showed that Delhi had the lowest intake compared with Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata and, therefore, it required further growth of educational facilities in engineering and technology at the degree level. First batch
The All-India Council of Technical Education has approved of the college, which is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, for two undergraduate Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) courses from this academic year (2007-08). The first batch in each of the branches would comprise 60 students. To begin with, the college will offer B.Tech degree courses in Civil Engineering and Information Technology. In due course, the college plans to offer five different engineering courses and have 1,200 students on its campus. It would also be developed as a centre of excellence in civil engineering and related fields. The Delhi Government has spent about Rs.8 crore for the college, which is spread over eight acres, and also earmarked Rs.3 crore in the current financial year for upgrading laboratories and other facilities. There are also plans to provide commuting facilities from Dwarka Mor metro railway station to the college. Consultancy
Pratima R. Bose, an expert on earthquake and civil engineering with 33 years’ experience in research and consultancy, has been appointed Principal of the college.
