Minister lays stone for KTPS unit
Staff Reporter
KOTHAGUDEM: Minister for Energy and Coal Mohd Ali Shabbir said on Thursday that the AP Genco had embarked upon a massive capacity addition programme to meet the power needs of the State. Laying the foundation stone for the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) stage VI ( 1X 500 MW), he said that the new power plants coming up in the State would add to the generation capacity by 7513 MW. The AP Genco would emerge as a 14,274 MW company by 2012.
He said the Congress Government had given a new lease of life to the Genco, which was subjected to long neglect by the previous Telugu Desam Government. He said the stage VI was sanctioned in the KTPS as soon as the coal linkage was given for the new unit by the Ministry of Coal. Its requirement of 2.30 million units would be met fully from the Mahanadhi Coal Fields.
