KOCHI: P.V. Chacko, chairman of LIS Group, has denied that neither he nor his institution had given money to anyone to settle an ongoing case against it. Mr. Chacko told presspersons here on Thursday that news reports linking him to K. Venugopal, former deputy general manager of the Deshabhimani daily, were baseless. He had restrained from reacting to these reports since the case was pending before the Kerala High Court. But with demands being made for filing a case to be registered on charges of bribery, it was time to clarify the stand, Mr. Chacko said. He said that he was confident that the case would be decided in favour of LIS, as the organisation had done nothing illegal. On CPI(M)
He knew Venugopal in relation to the advertisements released to the media. But no financial transaction related to the case was made. Also, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had not asked for any clarification on this issue, he said. At the time of registering the case, LIS had 3.25-lakh customers, of which 55,000 left after the case. The rest chose to remain with the institution, he said. No complaint had been registered against LIS in any court by customers.
