‘Revoke Information Commissioner’s appointment’

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Surendra Mohan faction of Janata Dal (Secular) has urged the Governor to revoke the appointment of former Karnataka Public Service Commission Chairman H.N. Krishna as State Information Commissioner stating that as he is ineligible for the post. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, which was released to the press here on Wednesday, the faction’s State unit president H. Ekanthaiah and secretary-general P.G. R. Sindhia noted that as per the Constitution, the chairman of a State Public Service Commission was eligible for reappointment only as chairman or a member of the Union Public Service Commission or chairman of any other State Public Service Commission after the expiry of his term.

‘Ineligible’

Such a person was ineligible for any other kind of post either under the Union Government or the State Government. Therefore, the appointment of Dr. Krishna, who retired as KPSC Chairman in January this year, amounts to subversion of the Constitution, the leaders argued.

The Governor had appointed Dr. Krishna as one of the State Information Commissioners by an order dated June 29.
