Disappointment for Indian women

HYDERABAD: The India pair of Y. Kanaka and K. Srilatha lost to the Chinese pair of Z. Wang and L. Wang 7-21, 4-21 in 23 minutes in the Asian circuit beach volleyball championship here on Thursday.

For the Indian pair, it was yet another embarrassing defeat after they were blanked by Malaysia in a first round match late on Wednesday.

The Indian duo seemed to be out of sorts for most part of the game and their opponents picked up points at will by sensible placements instead of powerful smashes.

The results: Men: Phillipines bt India III 21-15, 21-17; India II bt India I 21-19, 21-11; India II bt Malaysia II 21-15, 21-9; Indonesia I bt Thailand II 21-14, 21-15; Japan bt India IV 21-13, 21-14; Indonesia II bt Malaysia 21-19, 21 -11; Hong Kong I bt Thailand I 21-13, 21-13.

Women: China bt India I 21-7, 21-4. — Principal Correspondent
