Rupee improves further

MUMBAI: Stretching its gains for the sixth straight session, the rupee on Thursday improved further to close at new nine-year high of 40.43/44 against the dollar. In fairly active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian currency opened firm at 40.39/40 against Wednesday’s close of 40.45/46. Later, dollar buying by oil companies and possibility of intervention by the apex bank weighed on the rupee and it dipped to a low of 40.51. — PTI
