Gollapudi Srinivasa Rao
BHUPALPALLI (WARANGAL DT.): The Lok Satta party made a beginning by delivering its first promise. It extended support to the candidate for MPTC byelection of Azamnagar chosen by the people of the village. Four candidates came forward to contest on the Lok Satta party ticket in the election. The party held a secret preferential ballot allowing the people to select one candidate among the four. The village has about 2,000 votes. For the secret ballot, some 118 persons turned up on July 1. Of the four, a Vidya volunteer, M Mallikarjun, polled 99 votes and was chosen to be the Lok Satta candidate for the bypoll. Lok Satta senior leader Parcha Kodandarama Rao said that they were popularising the concept wherein the people themselves choose the party’s candidate and not any body else. The people liked the openness and the transparent manner of selecting the candidate. “This is not a new concept for India. This has been there, but political parties ignored I,.,” Mr Rao pointed out.
