Cuttack: After achieving significant breakthroughs in unearthing rackets involving counterfeit currency notes and illegal arms supply recently, the Cuttack police on Wednesday night arrested a person believed to be an agent of an illegal arms supplier. The Durgha Bazaar police, after raiding the Hathipokhari area, arrested one Baba Khan while he was moving at the main market area suspiciously. The police recovered a sophisticated revolver and six rounds of live cartridges from his possession. “Baba Khan has over 35 cases registered against him at different police stations of the city. He was released from jail about four months ago and was believed to be working for an illegal arms supplier,” said inspector S.C. Ghosh. Team for Kakinada
Meanwhile, a team of three policemen left for Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday to investigate into the fake currency note racket that was unearthed earlier this week. “The team has gone to quiz a paddy dealer whose assistant M. Ramakrishnan was arrested while he was allegedly trying to deposit fake currency notes in the bank account of a city-based businessman,” said Cuttack SP S.K. Priyadarshi. Ramakrishnan was trying to credit over Rs. 2 lakhs in the bank but all the notes turned out to be fake. The city police also arrested at least three other paddy traders from Andhra Pradesh for questioning.
