PERIAKULAM: Combing of forests in Theni district and other hilly regions to nab extremists has been intensified and will be a combined effort of the police, ‘Q’ Branch and Special Task Force, K. Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, said here on Thursday.
Talking to reporters on Muruganmalai hillock, 7 km from here, Mr. Kumar said the STF was operating in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruvallur and Vellore districts. The same tactics would be adopted here too.
Increase in force would depend on the requirements. Jungle training had been imparted to 1,000 sub-inspectors, including 343 women officers.
They were working in various parts of the State and would be utilised for this operation too, he said.
Simultaneous work
Several teams had been engaged for simultaneous combing in various places. “This effort will be a continuation of earlier efforts (to curb naxalites).”
Mr. Kumar inspected a fodder farm near E. Pudukottai village, from where the police unearthed arms and ammunition recently.
