“No decision on dropping seniors”

Karachi: The Pakistan National selectors started deliberations here to finalise probables for the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup to be held in South Africa, with the chief selector insisting no decision has been made on dropping some senior players for the instant brand of cricket.

Salahuddin Ahmed, the chief selector, said all players were being considered.

“For the shortlist of 30 probables we are considering the senior as well as some new players,” he said.

Media reports had said that the selectors, who will also pick probables for the Australia ‘A’ team’s tour of Pakistan, might drop senior players like Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul Razzaq for the Twenty20 World Cup.

Salahuddin however admitted that the selectors were thinking on lines of picking specialist players for the tournament as the latest version was a different brand of cricket from Test and one-day internationals. — PTI
