dated July 7, 1957 : Food zone for South

The Union Food Ministry will shortly issue a notification constituting a food zone comprising Madras, Andhra Pradesh, Mysore and Kerala as decided at the recent conference of Food Ministers at Hyderabad. The notification will also set out the arrangements in connection with the functioning of the zonal system, regulation of movement to places outside the zone, and for maintaining reasonable prices within the zone. The arrangements also provide for the setting up of a machinery for periodic review of the working of the zonal system, with particular reference to the flow of rice from the producing centres to known deficit areas within the zone, price levels, etc. This body will consist of representatives of the four States and the Union Food Ministry.
