dated July 7, 1957 : Gandhiji and hill stations

Some anecdotes about Gandhiji’s love for hill stations were given by Mr. Devadas Gandhi, in the course of his address to the Hindi Premi Mandali, Kodai, at a function held in a local school. “Normally Gandhiji considered such trips as a waste of time and a hindrance to his national activities. Nevertheless, he could enjoy such trips even forgetting himself. While at Simla for an interview with a Governor-General, Gandhiji was not quite at home at first. But the beauty of the melting snows captured his mind at last and he decided to stay on for a week.” In 1929, in Agra, even the moonlit Taj could not draw his attention. However, Devadas being the youngest son, took liberty to persuade him to visit the Taj. Surprisingly Gandhiji went round and round the monument eagerly examining it.
