Banks exceed plan target in Kasaragod

KASARAGOD: Banks in the district have exceeded target fixed under annual credit plan 2006-07, a district-level review committee organised by Syndicate Bank, lead bank of the district, here on July 5 has said.

The meeting also decided to take steps to meet the credit target of Rs.1,357.48 crore fixed for the district in the financial year 2007-08. District Collector N.A. Krishnankutty, who is also the chairman of the review committee, congratulated banks for achieving the target. He called for a concerted work by banks and Government departments for the development of the district.

The banks distributed a credit of Rs.800.14 crore under priority sector against a target of Rs.744.91 crore. The actual disbursement in the non-priority sector was Rs.1,023.20 crore against a target of Rs.428.83 crore. The banks exceeded targets fixed for crop loans, loans for rural artisans and small-scale industries.

The credit disbursement under the head allied activities was 50 per cent of the target. The review committee noted that the credit-deposit ratio in the district was 92 per cent. The banks would distribute Rs.504.1 crore in agriculture sector in 2007-08, the meeting decided. A sum of Rs.281.09 crore would be distributed to small-scale industrial sector as loan during the period.

K.P. Muraleedharan, assistant general manager of Syndicate Bank regional office, Kannur, delivered the keynote address. Those who participated in the meeting included N.R. Pillai, assistant general manager (AGM) of RBI and Premkumar AGM, NABARD. Lead bank manager K.T. Shivadas welcomed the gathering .
