Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Friday seized Rs 16.50 lakh, 500 dollars, jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh and papers related to investments of Rs 20 lakh during simultaneous raids on four premises of an IAS officer in Bihar. Inspector General (SVU) A K Upadhyay told PTI here that teams raided the premises of S S Verma, secretary in minor irrigation department, including his residences at Rukanpur and Daldali in the State capital, another home in Katihar and his ancestral house at Lucknow this morning. The sleuths seized the cash, foreign currency, jewellery and papers showing investments in real estate and shares, he said. Mr. Upadhyay said a disproportionate assets case was registered against Verma, an IAS officer of the 1981 batch, on July 2. Verma has been charged with amassing assets worth Rs 68.7 lakh beyond his known sources of income. The raids which began early this morning continued till this afternoon and the scrutiny of seized documents was still on, he said. PTI
