‘Highlight people’s problems in an objective manner’

Three-day workshop for journalists in mofussil areas begins

GADAG: Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Moshin has urged journalists working in taluk and district centres to highlight the problems of people living in rural areas in an objective manner.

He was speaking after inaugurating a three-day workshop on “Rural development training” for mofussil journalists organised under the aegis of K.H. Patil Agricultural Sciences Institute, Karnataka Madhyam Academy and State Information Department at Hulakoti near Gadag on Friday.

He said everybody had a role to play in successful exercising of powers, including journalists. The journalists should through light on the achievements and failures in an objective manner, he added.

He said elected representatives at the village-level had a greater responsibility as projects were chalked out based on the local needs and they had a crucial role in ensuring their proper implementation.

V.N. Hiremath, Chief Executive Officer of Gadag Zilla Panchayat, said the objective of decentralisation of power was to ensure comprehensive rural development and efforts were needed to strengthen the system.

V.N. Subbarao, Chairman of the Karnataka Madhyam Academy, said the academy was holding 10 such workshops across the State with the assistance of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj to train 250 moffusil journalists.

Convenor of the workshop A.S. Balasubramanyam, senior lecturer, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Karnatak University, spoke.

L.G. Hiregowdar, Head of K.H. Patil Agricultural Sciences Institute, was present. Senior Assistant Director of Information Pralhad Parvati welcomed.

Assistant Director C.P. Mayachari compered. V.S. Kashetti, member of the academy, proposed a vote of thanks.
