CHANDIGARH: The Cambridge University has agreed to declare Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya at Khanpur Kalan in Sonipat district as its sub-centre for certification in English language proficiency, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here on Friday. He said that this would be a collaborative project of the Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidhalya, the Cambridge University and the British Council. Mr.Hooda said a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed with the Cambridge University on August 2 to enable girl students to acquire international certification in spoken English such as Cambridge Business English Certificates (BEC) and Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). Meanwhile,the Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Gupta said that Mr.Hooda and the Haryana Governor and University Chancellor A.R.Kidwai would visit the campus on July 8 and lay foundation stones of new fast track projects involving an investment of Rs. 60 crores. These projects include buildings for three girls’ hostels, big teaching blocks, a campus school, a guest house and about 125 houses for the staff. These projects would be completed by May 30, 2008, she added. Mrs.Gupta pointed out that with the completion of these projects, the University would introduce a variety of new professional courses from the academic session 2008-09. These would relate to information technology, bio-technology, medical sciences, design and architecture, engineering and technology, life sciences, management, travel and hospitality, civil aviation, finance and accounting, journalism and education. The University had implemented a mega project to impart free of cost lab-based language training in spoken English, communication skills and foreign languages to all the students. The state-of-art labs would become fully functional in the first week of August, 2007, she added.
