KUMBAKONAM: A memorial for 94 students killed in July 16, 2004 Kumbakonam school fire tragedy will be completed in three to four months, according to Kumbakonam Municipal Commissioner V.P. Dhandapani.
The Government had allotted Rs. 60 lakh and the memorial would be located at Palakarai. The municipality had taken up the civil works. Professors of the Kumbakonam Government Arts and Crafts College were sculpting the plaque, a bronze pillar with flame.
The Chennai Fine Arts College and the Kumbakonam college jointly prepared the design.
Mr. Dhandapani said the memorial was coming up on a 14,000 sq ft area. Eleven children of Natham village near Kumbakonam died in the fire.
