Rupee edges down

MUMBAI: The rupee on Friday fell to Rs. 40.44/45 against the U.S. currency, snapping the six-day long gaining streak on dollar buying by state-owned banks and oil refiners amid sustained capital inflows into equity markets.

The rupee moved in a small range of 40.41 and 40.48 after resuming weak at 40.47/48 from the previous close of Rs 40.43/44 a dollar. The rupee is well supported by sustained FII inflows into the equity markets but traders suspected the central bank’s intervention in favour of exporters. — PTI
