New Delhi: Anup Sridhar waged a fierce battle against 10th seed Wei Ng of Hong Kong before going down 19-21, 21-18, 21-4 in a men’s singles quarterfinal clash of the Thailand Open Badminton Championship in Bangkok on Friday. Sridhar, who performed consistently throughout the tournament, lost 19-21 21-18 21-4 in an extremely close contest that lasted nearly an hour.
The Indian shuttler had a flying start as he pocketed the nail-biting first game in style. Wei, however, restored parity by winning the equally engrossing second game.
The top-seeded Wei then used his superior skills to win the decider rather easily and move into the semifinals. In the last-four stage, he will meet second seed Hong Chen of China. — PTI
