Staff Reporter

The intra muscular one will be replaced

Domesticated animals could cause 200 diseases

Two people lost their life to rabies last year

SANGAREDDY: The eleven hospitals including the district headquarters hospital here under Andhrapradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishat have opened up morning clinics to provide Intradermal anti rabies vaccine.

Replacing the old intra muscular six day anti rabies injection, which would have cost Rs. 2,000, the new vaccine would cost around Rs. 200 for four doses.

The superintendent of the Head quarters hospital Dr. Lakshmi Rajam told The Hindu on the sidelines of Zoonosis day here that the improved vaccine should be taken on the 1st, 3rd,14th and 28th days immediately after the bite of a rab id dog.

Special timings

However the patients should arrive at the hospital between 9 a.m and 12 noon so that the vaccine could be administered to at least five persons. Each veil of the vaccine is sufficient for five doses.

Dog bitten children should be bought to the pediatric ward while the adults should be taken to the Out patient ward for the injection.

The APVVP hospitals in the district have sufficient stocks of the vaccine and the superintendent said that more stocks could be ordered from the Central drug stores in case of urgency. Two persons have lost their life due to rabies last year in the district.

Farmers must be cautious

The Joint director of animal husbandry Khaja Moinuddin addressing students at the Animal health care center on the occasion of Zoonosis day said that often farmers who bring their animals for vaccination bring the viral vaccines in normal temperature.

He advised them to insist the pharmacists to pack it in ice as most of the vaccines are highly unstable particularly the anti rabies injection for the canines.

He informed that domesticated animals could cause over 200 different diseases.

He said that eating raw eggs could cause Salmonellasis and raw milk could cause Brucellosis. He advised that the handler of the animal also to get vaccinated to be on the safer side.

More than fifty dogs received free anti rabies vaccine on the occasion of Zoonosis day at the local veterinary hospital.
