CUTTACK: The police team that had gone to Andhra Pradesh in connection with the fake currency notes case arrested two more persons in Kakinada and brought them here on Friday. K. Venkat Reddy and N. Venkat Reddy were produced in court. They were remanded in jail custody, said Malgodown inspector P.K. Rath, who is investigating the case. With these arrests, the number of persons arrested by the Cuttack police reached three. Some more persons were likely to be arrested as the police believe that a well-planned racket was operating from Andhra Pradesh in preparing the counterfeit currency notes. Clues gathered
Mr. Rath informed that the city police got some clues about the racket being operated in Andhra Pradesh and how some traders from that State were sneaking into Orissa to pump in fake currency notes. In view of the investigations still in progress, he refused to divulge the details. It may be recalled that the police had earlier this week arrested M. Ramakrishnan, who was allegedly trying to deposit fake notes in the bank account of a city-based businessman. He was trying to credit Rs. 2,22,000 in the bank but all the notes turned out to be fakes. A police team led by a Telugu-speaking inspector K.N. Swamy had gone to Andhra Pradesh for further investigation.
