In safe hands: A four-day-old baby girl who survived an alleged murder attempt by her grandparents and mother in Utkoor mandal of Mahbubnagar district, at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday.
HYDERABAD: The three-day infant who escaped certain death on Thursday after being buried alive by the elders of her family in Utkoor of Mahabubnagar district was shifted to Niloufer Hospital, here, when she developed breathlessness. Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI), which runs ‘108’ service, used two ambulances from Mahbubnagar and Jadcherla to shift the little one to Niloufer. An EMRI technician said even at 10.40 a.m. on Friday, when they picked her up, she was short of breath and there were abrasions all over her body. Doctors at Niloufer cleaned the baby’s airways, sucking out sand particles using a pump and after treating the abrasions, fed her milk and nutrients. By evening her condition had stabilised. She is breathing normally and is sleeping, they said. Even as the doctors were stabilising the infant’s condition, using nebulisers, her mother, Nuran Bee, told reporters at Mahbubnagar that the baby was not hers and that she was even prepared to take a DNA test to prove her point. When contacted, Mahabubnagar SP Charu Sinha said the police have enough evidence to nail Nuran Bee. “If at any point of time we feel the need for more evidence, we will surely have a DNA test done on her”, she said. Meanwhile a couple from Hyderabad has come forward to adopt the girl and visited her at the Niloufer Hospital. Woman leaves baby
Nellore staff reporter adds: In another case of a girl child being abandoned, an unidentified woman left behind her daughter at the Government Area Hospital at Gudur soon after delivery. According to the police, a security guard at the hospital noticed the girl child who was crying due to ant bites in the early hours of Thursday. He immediately alerted the hospital authorities besides giving first aid to the newborn. Later, the hospital superintendent, Ashok Kumar, informed the police about the recovery of the baby on the hospital premises. The police registered a case but the girl child was kept under the custody of the hospital staff even on Friday on health grounds. The nursing staff at the hospital claimed that the baby would have been delivered at home and left on the hospital premises. “We will wait for a few days and hand over the baby to officials of the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS),” they said.
