SIs to do passport verification

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sub-Inspectors (SIs) of police will be given the powers for passport verification in the State, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Replying to questions in the Assembly on Friday, Mr. Balakrishnan said that now the police verification for issuing passports was being done by the District Special Branch. By empowering the Sub-Inspectors, the delay in completing the verification process could be contained. . The Government reported 30,408 vacancies to the Public Service Commission during 2006-07, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said.
