THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State secretariat of Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has said that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will not succeed in its propaganda to belittle the significance of the political will being shown by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government in evicting land grabbers from Munnar. In a statement here on Friday, the CPI(M) State secretariat said there was no room for any doubt about the Government’s willingness to take all legally permissible measures to evict the land grabbers, however big they were. The strong-willed eviction drive going on in Munnar was getting big support from the people of the State. The UDF leadership, disappointed with the people’s reaction to the development, had now come up with the ‘invention’ that there were differences of opinion over the subject within the Cabinet. This propaganda would not mislead anyone, the CPI(M) said. “The UDF’s argument in the Assembly on Friday was as though there were differences between the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister connected with the issue of the Government taking over the land kept in possession by Tata [company]. Certain media organisations are also supporting this [the UDF propaganda]. This is baseless. Tata company had put up their signboard at a place that did not belong to it. This signboard was removed in the proper manner in the presence of the Chief Minister and replaced with the Government’s signboard. These facts are as clear as broad daylight,” the statement said. “The CPI(M), which is the leading party in the LDF, and the CPI, which is the main constituent party, are having excellent relations and unity in Kerala. None need to entertain any doubt that anything causing strains in these relations would occur in the functioning of the LDF Government. Joint interventions by the leftist democratic forces have a considerable relevance in today’s national politics. The CPI(M) State secretariat has strong conviction that the LDF’s governance of the State and the unity among the constituent parties in the LDF would be such as to set a model [in strengthening the unity of leftist democratic forces in the country],” the statement said.
