A weekend full of music and drama

Bangalore: The students of Bangalore School of Speech and Drama are performing Rabindranath Tagore’s Card Country (Tasher Desh), a play about breaking the confines of dead habit and encouraging self-expression. A colourful pre sentation with song, dance and humour, there are two shows at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall over the weekend. Saturday’s show will commence at 7.30 p.m. while Sunday’s is a matinee at 11.30 a.m. Tickets are priced at Rs. 250, Rs. 200 and Rs. 100.

The 75-minute play, translated by William Radice, has been directed by Zulfia Shaikh. Forty children are part of the troupe that will perform the play. For details, call 9845071197 or 988636004.

For fans of Girish Karnad, Vedike is presenting Karnad Company, a mosaic of his plays and characters presented in a unique collage. The cast includes C.R. Simha, Sharada Simha, Alakananda, Nandakishore, Suchitra, Ritwik Simha, Prade ep and Satyashree Deepak. It is written and directed by Ritwik Simha. The performances, at Ranga Shankara, are at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday and at 3.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on Sunday. Call 26724373.

Hindustani music

Raga Sangama presents a Hindustani vocal recital by Nagabhushan Hegde on Sunday, July 8, accompanied by Satish Kolli on the harmonium and Uday Raj Karpur on the tabla .The programme will be held at the Vivekananda School, near SBM ,E Block, Sahakarnagar.
