Thiruvananthapuram: The city police arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police attached to the Museum police station on charges of outraging the modesty of a 34-year-old woman near Statue junction on the M.G. Road on Friday. The incident happened in front of a hotel near the main gate of the Secretariat around 4.15 p.m. when the woman was walking along the road along with her son, the police said. ASI C. Sukumaran, 53, was arrested on the basis of the complaint from the woman, who is in the personal staff of Minister for Agriculture, Mulakkara Retnakaran. The woman is also a member of North Mandalam of Kerala Mahila Sanghom. According to the police, the accused was in an inebriated condition. He was produced in the court. A chronic diabetic, he was on leave for the last two-and-a-half weeks. The ASI has been placed under suspension by City Police Commissioner Ravada Chandra Sekhar on the basis of the report from the Cantonment police station.
