Contractors suspend road works

KOCHI: Road contractors have refused to take up 11 major patch-filling works in the city, for which the Public Works Department had invited tenders, citing non-payment of dues.

Secretary of All-Kerala Government Contractors Association Joji Joseph said it had been decided not to take up road works, as dues dating back to 27 months have remained uncleared. “Only dues up to March, 2005, have been cleared. The Finance Minister’s promise of clearing dues remains on paper. We will soon approach the court, he said.
