Cases against councillors

KANCHEEPURAM: Councillors of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Congress, who had a brawl at the Kancheepuram Municipal Council meeting on Thursday, lodged complaints against each other with the Siva Kanchi police station.

According to the police, AIADMK councillor Suresh complained that Congress councillor Kuppan used abusive language and also threw a chair on him at the meeting.

Mr. Kuppan alleged that AIADMK councillors Mr. Suresh and Mr. Jinnah, along with three others — Ravi, Kutty Raja and Balu Suresh — attempted to attack him on the municipal office premises and threatened to kill him.

A case under sec. 249 (B) and 323 of IPC was booked against the Congress councillor on Friday and a case under sec.147, 341 and 506(1) of IPC was registered against the AIADMK councillors and the three others.
