IT complaints

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Complaints relating to Income Tax officials can be sent to Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner or Commissioner of Income Tax before being forwarded to the Income Tax Ombudsman, a release said here on Friday.

Complainants should first send a written representation to the I-T authority superior to the one complained against, it said. The superior authorities are expected to reply within a month. If the complainant does not receive a reply, or is not satisfied with the reply, he could approach the Ombudsman.

The release appealed to the complainant to enclose a copy of the PAN card or PAN allotment letter, in case the card was not received. If a complaint is sent in triplicate it would help speed up the processing. The Income Tax Ombudsman’s office is now functioning from Prakash Presidium, 3rd Floor, 110 Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nungambakkam. Phone numbers: 044-28213044/28213034.
