Rajesh, Shamini are top seeds

CHENNAI: R. Rajesh and K. Shamini have been given the top seeding in the men’s and women’s sections respectively in the Table Tennis Players’ Parents’ Association’s fifth State-ranking tournament to be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium here on July 7 and 8.

K. Bharat Shankar’s unbeaten 122 propelled St. Bede’s past PSBB (T. Nagar) in the St. Bede’s Sumer Soft Centenary under-15 cricket tournament here on Friday.

The scores: St. Bede’s 234 for two in 30 overs (K. Bharat Shankar 122 not out, Leonard Bruno 61, R. Ananth 32) bt PSBB (T. Nagar) 67 in 22.5 overs (Venkatesh four for 11).

MCC 113 for seven in 30 overs (Varun 43, R. Bharat three for 20) lost to PSBB (KK Nagar) 114 for two in 15.4 overs (S. Sashank 40).

St. Johns ES & JC 191 for two in 30 overs (P.R. Sylvester Jayan 32, P.T. Sivanesh 77 not out, Shikar Hukku 36 not out) bt St. Patrick’s 109 in 29.5 overs (Vigneswar Rao 28 not out, U. Sasi Dev 25, S.R. Vibu five for 14).

ICF beats Excise

Integral Coach Factory defeated Central Excise 25-23, 25-17, 25-15 in the men’s section of the IOB-SRM Chennai District ‘A’ division men’s volleyball league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Friday.

In another match, TNEB beat RPF 25-21, 25-16, 25-16.

Pradeep posts win

Pradeep (SS) defeated Raj Kumar (TNSC) 2-0 (55-17, 58-12) in the Seafarer’s Club first non-medallist snooker tournament at the club premises here.

Karting Challenge

The Chennai leg of the Amaron Karting Challenge 2007 will take place on July 8 at Kart Attack, East Coast Road, here.

Around 250 participants between 13 and 17 years of age will feature in the event, which will take place in various cities of India. The finals will be held in Goa in October and the winner will earn a scholarship berth in the Amaron Scholarship Programme.

Inter-school meets

The Madras Christian College HSS will stage inter-school competitions in cricket, football, tennis and badminton on its premises in Chetpet from July 9.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday, G.J. Manohar, headmaster and correspondent, MCC HSS, said, “Our school campus is large and we have the facilities. Due to these competitions, the other schools will also be able to compete in an environment conducive to sports.”

The cricket tournament, limited to city schools, will be played over 25 overs a side. The final will be on July 17. The cricket tournament, restarted, is named after the 1960 alumni.

The tennis tournament is being introduced, while the Kuruvilla Jacob Memorial badminton competition enters its third year.

The second State-level inter-school Rev. John Anderson football tournament will feature teams from the Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu districts. The matches begin on August 6 and conclude on August 11.

The competitions will be inaugurated on July 9 (8.30 a.m.) by Thirumalai Samy, vice-chancellor, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University at the school ground.
