Sad moment: The owner of the locker outside the Darya Ganj branch of Vijaya Bank in the Capital on Friday from where her belongings were allegedly stolen.
NEW DELHI: Gold and diamond jewellery worth several lakh rupees were found missing from a locker of Vijaya Bank at Darya Ganj here on Friday. A case of theft has been registered. Neera Jain, the complainant, had gone to the bank to take out her jewellery when she found the valuables missing from the locker, the police said. The locker was last opened on January 24. “Neera had gone to the bank around 11 a.m. to take out jewellery for a family function. She went to the strong room escorted by a bank security guard and opened the locker. To her utter surprise, the locks were intact but the locker was empty. She then rushed home and narrated the whole incident to her mother-in-law. At the instance of her mother-in-law, she returned to the bank and checked the locker again. Neera then called up her husband Rishab Jain and informed him about the incident. The matter was then reported to the bank authorities,” said Neera’s cousin Bharat Jain. He claimed the jewellery was worth over 10 lakh. Rishab Jain runs a garments shop in Gandhi Nagar. The family had been operating the locker for more than a decade. After the incident came into light, several other customers rushed to the bank to check their lockers, the police said.
