NEW DELHI: The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Friday demanded resignation of the Institute’s sub-dean (academics) Sunil Chumber accusing him of not meeting the association members and making “baseless allegations” against them. Selection
The situation at AIIMS has grown tense after the Institute’s administration decided to withhold declaration of its senior residents selection written examination-cum-interview held this past month after allegation about the Institute’s administration having allegedly discriminated against students from the reserved category. Members of the RDA stating that the results of the examination-cum-interview should be displayed immediately are also demanding appointment of senior residents who have cleared the recently held examinations for the benefit of continuing quality healthcare services to patients. Said RDA president Kumar Harsh: “The elected representative of the Institute had a general body meeting on the matter and we have come up with a series of requests, a copy of which has also been submitted to the Institute’s Director P. Venugopal.” The RDA in its letter -- issued also to the Institute’s Dean (examination and academics), Commissioner of Police and all Head of Departments -- has also demanded that the Institute maintain transparency of the process followed for selection. “We want that the Institute should maintain transparency while conducting the business of selecting its senior residents. Candidates who have already taken and cleared the examination should not be `harassed’ in any manner. The results should be displayed and the residents should be allowed to continue to provide quality healthcare. We want the entire process to be unbiased and just,” added. Dr. Harsh. Security
Meanwhile, Dr. Chumber who had asked the Institute for additional security early this week, was provided the same on Thursday. ``I have been given security after my letter to the AIIMS administration. I was threatened my members of the RDA after which I stressed the need for additional security.” Progressive Medico and Scientists Forum (PMSF) member Kapil Yadav said: “The Institute is indulging in disinformation campaign and misrepresenting the figures of candidates who have been taken in. Also, the RDA general body meeting was attended by around 40 residents, where baseless allegations were made against members of PMSF and resignation of the sub-dean academics was demanded.
